Props Aren’t Cheating. They’re the Secret Sauce.

Let’s clear something up: using yoga props is not cheating. In fact, props can make your practice more effective, more supported, and more aligned with what your body actually needs on any given day.

Props help us meet our bodies where they are, which is exactly what yoga is all about. They offer support when we need to rest, challenge when we need to engage, and stability when we need to focus.

Here are a few of our favorite ways to use them:

Block

A block is more than just a way to “bring the floor closer.” One of our favorite ways to use a block is to enhance core-focused poses. Try holding a block between your hands or your thighs in a yoga version of dead bug pose. It fires up the deep core muscles in a really targeted way.

Bolster

A bolster offers full-body support, especially during rest. Want to take your savasana to the next level? Place a bolster underneath your knees to ease tension in your low back and allow your whole body to settle more deeply.

Folded Blanket

Sitting for breathwork or meditation? A folded blanket placed under your hips can help elevate your seat, making it easier to sit upright and stay comfortable. No more tingling legs or slouching spines.

Sandbag

These little gems add gentle weight and grounding. Try one during legs-up-the-wall pose, either across your hips, on your chest, or resting lightly on your feet. It helps deepen the relaxation and connect you more fully to the ground.

Props are here to support your practice, not replace it. They help create space, stability, and ease in your body. Whether you're new to yoga or have been practicing for years, there is always something to gain by using props intentionally.

Feel free to grab one (or all) in your next class and explore the difference for yourself.
