If there is one thing I could tell every yoga student, and I may have
USE THE DAMN PROPS!
The bolster under the knees. The block under your hands. The blanket under your hips. These are not training wheels. They are not the "easy" version. They are the actual tools of the practice.
Experienced practitioners, the people who have been doing this for decades, use props. Not because they can't do without them. Because they know better.
When you reach for a block, you're not admitting defeat. You're allowing your body to be in the right position. You're getting more out of the pose, not less.
The person in class white-knuckling or fighting through a pose with no support? They are working harder and getting less benefit. I love them, but I need them to grab a block.
Props are how yoga is supposed to feel in your body.
So this week, I'm asking you to reach for them. Even if you don't think you need them. Try it once and see what changes.
