My Favorite Yoga Books

I love books and especially yoga books. Over the years I have amassed a little library of yoga related books. Someone recently asked me what are my favorite yoga books? Here is a list of some of my current favorite yoga related books.

“Yoga, The Spirit and Practice of Moving into Stillness” by Erich Schiffmann

This is one of my most favorite yoga books and I reread parts of it all the time. The author is very descriptive in explaining yoga. I love his explanation of aligning yoga poses by feeling the lines of energy rather than how the alignment looks on the outside. One of the meditations in the book I use almost every day.

“The Science of Yoga” by Ann Swanson

This is my new favorite yoga anatomy book. The pictures are great and show what parts of the body are working and what parts are resting the in the yoga poses. It is one of the few yoga anatomy books that includes the cat and cow poses. It also incorporates all the systems of the body effected by yoga not just the muscles and bones.

“Breathing Book” by Donna Farhi

It amazes me that there is an entire book about breathing. I mean we breath most of the time without even thinking about it. This is great to explore the details of how we breath and how the patterns of our breath effect our bodies.

“The New Yoga for People Over 50” by Suza Francina

This was one of the books required for my Yoga therapy training program and I love it. Most of the pictures we see on the media and IG show younger, thin, and super flexible people in poses. This book proves people of all ages can and maybe should do yoga. It also helps show that yoga is not really about forcing yourself into crazy positions.
