Honorable Mentions

March Matness is officially underway at Hippie Yoga. Poses are battling it out in bracket-style matchups, and you’ve been voting for your favorites.

But just like any good tournament, there are always a few honorable mentions that didn’t make the bracket.

Not because they aren’t amazing…but because they’re the quieter, slower, deeply restorative poses that don’t always get the spotlight.

Many of these come from Yin-style or our Peace Frog class, where we use props and longer holds to gently stress connective tissue, support mobility, and give the nervous system a chance to downshift.

These poses may not win a popularity contest, but they are absolutely some of the most powerful tools we have.

Here are three that deserve a little love.

❤️ Supported Heart Opener

This pose is all about creating space across the chest and shoulders.

Using a bolster or rolled blanket along the spine allows the chest to gently open while the body is fully supported.

Why we love it:

• Counteracts all the forward posture from phones and computers• Encourages deeper breathing• Helps release tension in the chest and shoulders• Can feel incredibly calming for the nervous system

Sometimes the most powerful thing we can do is simply let the front body soften and open.

◼ Square Pose (Fire Log)

Square pose works deeply into the outer hips and glutes.

It’s a Peace Frog favorite because when we settle in and let the muscles soften, we begin to access the connective tissues around the hips.

Why it’s worth the patience:

• Improves hip mobility• Supports healthier knees and lower back• Helps release tension that builds from sitting

And like many Yin poses, the magic often happens when we stop trying to push and start letting the body unfold.

Props like blankets or blocks under the knees can make this pose much more accessible.

🦵 Legs Up the Wall

If yoga had a “secret weapon” pose, this might be it.

Legs Up the Wall is simple, supported, and incredibly effective.

Benefits include:

• Helps circulation• Reduces swelling in legs and feet• Encourages relaxation and recovery• Gently calms the nervous system

It’s one of those poses that feels like you’re doing nothing… while your body is quietly resetting itself.

Slow Poses Matter Too

While the bracket is filled with familiar favorites like Sun Salutations, Warriors, and Majorette, these slower Yin-style poses are the ones that often help our bodies recover, release tension, and restore balance.

They may not win March Matness…

…but they definitely deserve an honorable mention.

If you’re curious to experience these poses, you’ll often find them in our Peace Frog and other slower classes on the schedule.

Sometimes the most powerful practice is simply slowing down.
