Meditation Challenge

It’s time for our yearly Meditation Challenge.  Each year Hippie Yoga encourages everyone to start a daily meditation practice. Meditation has so many physical and mental benefits. Meditation literally lowers stress. Research published in the journal Health Psychology shows that meditation is not only associated with feeling less stressed, it’s also linked with decreased levels of the stress hormone cortisol. Meditation helps the brain to have better control over processing pain and emotions, specifically through the control of cortical alpha rhythms (which play a role in what senses our minds are attentive to), According to a study in the journal Frontiers in Human Neuroscience meditation helps you stay healthy. Researchers from the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Health found that people who engage in meditation miss fewer days of work from acute respiratory infections, and also experience a shortened duration and severity of symptoms.  The Guidelines of the challenge are simple;

  1. Starting January 7th, meditate for 40 consecutive days.
  2. If you miss a day you must start back at day 1.
  3. At least five minutes of seated meditation.

I will create a group email to send with tip and tools I have used to help start and maintain my personal meditation practice.  I will also be sending encouragement along the way and answer any questions you have have about meditation.  You can keep the group update on your progress, any roadblocks you might have with the challenge and any new tips you find along the way.
